Tanabata Matsuri is a famous Japanese festival known as the “Star Festival” and it is being celebrated in today’s Google Doodle. The festival, which occurs on the seventh day of the seventh month, has its origins in China but has become an important part of Japanese culture. The main focus of the festival is the annual meeting of two stars, Vega and Altair. The Google Doodle depicts someone gazing up at the starry sky and hanging wishes on tanzaku strips.
