Digital influencer Laura Tuttman recently went viral when she discovered that Google “watches” her every move. In a TikTok post that garnered nearly 100,000 likes, she expressed her amazement at showing her followers the Maps timeline, which shows the locations visited by each person. In reality, this discovery is the recording of the user’s routes and trips based on the device’s history. As shown by the influencer in the video, the tool can be managed or deactivated at any time.

How to access Google’s timeline?
The timeline can be accessed from the website “timeline.google.com” (desktop version). You will need to log in with the same Google account registered on your smartphone in order to retrieve the timeline. You can also access the tool through the web version of Google Maps.
Access “timeline.google.com” in your browser;
First, open the menu located in the top left corner of the screen;
Then select the option “Your Timeline”;
On this page, there will be fields to enter the day, month, and year for which the user wants to see visited locations.
How to activate the location history of Google’s timeline?
When location history is activated, precise location points are saved by Google, allowing them to create a personalized timeline for each user and provide recommendations based on the places visited. The location recording feature works even when high-tech apps are not being used, running in the background. To activate the tool, follow the steps below:
Open the timeline, following the step-by-step described above;
Look for the “Settings” option;
Select the option to activate the history.
How to deactivate Google’s timeline?
It is important to know that according to the company, if the timeline is deactivated, it will no longer be possible to access it and the visited locations with the device will not be known. Follow the steps below for actions such as deleting data history and deactivating the timeline:
Open the tool’s home screen;
Look for the “Manage Location History” option;
Select the option to deactivate the timeline.
